Little Girl In Need Of Liver Transplant Doing Well In Recovery

Author: Brenda Waters

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – She’s dealt with more ups and downs than most people five times her age.

But a little girl continues to power through all of her medical obstacles.

It’s been a long road for the 4-year-old from Ohio. She has gone from near death to a liver transplant on Children’s Hospital to rehab at the Children’s Institute of Pittsburgh.

Little Jamie gets three hours of occupational and physical therapy each day.

“She is undergoing rehab, as well as intense feeding therapy designed to help her eat more and better,” said Dr. Rachna Kapoor with the Children’s Institute. “She has a feeding tube to help supplement her nutrition. The goal is to get that out.”

Jamie is the 4-year-old whose plea for a liver donor was heard around the world.

Life hasn’t been easy for her. She’s been a foster child since birth and was born with a liver disease that would have taken her life without a donor.

“Her condition got to the point where it worsened that she was not going to leave the hospital without a transplant,” said Marilyn Pape with Trumball County Children Services.

She got the needed transplant in May at Children’s Hospital and last week went to the Children’s Institute of Pittsburgh.

And she seems to be on the road to recovery.
