Police: 2-Year-Old On Life-Support After Accidentally Falling In Pool

CANONSBURG, Pa. (KDKA/AP) - A 2-year-old boy is on life-support three days after accidentally falling into his family's backyard swimming pool.

According to  Canonsburg Police, Dean Gillum is on life-support at Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC.

The boy was flown there after he fell into the pool Thursday afternoon at their home on Linda Court.

The boy's mother tells police he was playing with a toy lawn mower when she went into the house to get him some juice. She returned to find him floating face-down and pulled him out of the water.

Police say the family typically takes down a ladder used to access the above-ground pool after they finish swimming, but hadn't done that on Thursday.

On Thursday, the child's father, Paul, wrote, "We were just told if he lives, he will be severely disabled and dependent on others. He has minimal brain function as a loss of brain damage. We appreciate everyone's concerns. I love you baby boy more than words can ever say."

The boy's mother said he had been taking swimming lessons since he was 6 months old.
