Police Arrest, Charge Ex-Boyfriend In East Hills Double Murder

PITTSBURGH (KDKA/AP) -- Police say they have arrested and filed homicide charges against the man whose former girlfriend was found dead along with her grandmother in the East Hills in May.

Cesar Mazza, 25, was taken into custody in New Jersey, but was returned to the Allegheny County Jail over the weekend.

Allegheny County Police say after questioning Mazza, they filed charges against him Tuesday in the double homicide of 19-year-old Tionna Banks and her grandmother, 72-year-old Valorie Crumpton.

They were found dead on May 7 in Crumpton's home on Karl Street. Police said both women were beaten and Banks was stabbed 15 times.

Mazza left the house and took the couple's 3-month-old baby with him.

Mazza is facing two counts of homicide and two counts of kidnapping.

He had been arrested in Newark, New Jersey, in May on Allegheny County bench warrants, including two charging him with failing to appear in court on charges he assaulted Banks last fall.

Banks had obtained protection-from-abuse orders against Mazza, saying he threatened her.
