Bob Walk: Calling Up Glasnow Would Be Desperate

PITTSBURGH (93-7 The Fan) – Pirates broadcaster Bob Walk joined "The Fan Morning Show" Wednesday for his regular weekly spot, and gave his thoughts on the idea of the Pirates calling up top prospect Tyler Glasnow for this year's pennant chase.

In Walk's mind, accelerating Glasnow's timetable might be a bit too hasty for Neal Huntington's taste.

"It would almost be kind of a desperation-type move in my mind," Walk said. "Now, maybe a month from now we'll be in desperation mode, but just looking at Neal's [Huntington's] track record, he doesn't bring anybody up until he thinks - not when anybody else thinks, but when he thinks - that the young player can be successful up here."

That being said, Walk, like Huntington, won't rule out seeing Glasnow in the majors this season.

"A lot of it depends too over the next couple, three weeks down in the minor leagues," Walk said. "If he handles the Triple-A level in a dominant fashion like he did in Double-A, well then I think it's more of a question."

Walk joins "The Fan Morning Show" every Wednesday at 9:03 a.m.
