Man Charged After Firing 13 Shots At Home, Allegedly Over $260 Debt

NEW KENSINGTON (KDKA) – A man is facing charges for allegedly firing shots at a home in New Kensington, which nearly hit several people.

According to the criminal complaint, the incident happened in the 200-block of Main Street around 3:30 p.m. on Aug. 1.

Witnesses said the shots came from the intersection of Sixth Avenue and Industrial Boulevard. Police searched that location and found 13 spent shell casings.

A home was hit four times, with three of them penetrating inside.

A teenager was twirling a baton in the driveway. When she bent down to pick it up, a bullet flew over her head. Another person was in a pool, while another ducked behind a vehicle when the shots rang out.

One witness said they observed an SUV belonging to a La'Tae Young. However, the witness said Young's boyfriend was driving at the time.

The witness said their daughter allegedly owed Young money. The daughter told police she had received multiple threats via social media websites after informing Young she would not pay her $260.

Several witnesses at the scene described the SUV as a charcoal gray Mitsubishi. Surveillance video from a nearby business showed the SUV turning down Sixth Avenue before the shots were fired.

From there, police were able to develop 21-year-old Wesley Brown as a suspect. On Aug. 2, police produced a photo lineup and one victim positively identified Brown as the shooter.

He was arrested early Tuesday morning in Plum. Police noticed his SUV parked at an apartment building there.

Brown is facing charges of criminal attempted homicide, aggravated assault and recklessly endangering another person.

He is now locked up in the Westmoreland County Jail and his bail has been denied.
