"Rural King" Store Offers Everything From Underwear To Live Chickens

BUTLER (KDKA) -- Clearview Mall in Butler has the usual clothing stores, jewelry, books, farm equipment. Farm equipment?

The new Rural King store has, well, everything.

"Where else can you buy a chain saw, a pair of jeans, underwear, a live chicken, a gate, a plow for your farm, potato chips?"

Store manager Bob Ridley somehow keeps track of this eclectic collection of supplies. This place defies description.

"Every customer comes through this store, they just have that look of excitement and astonishment on their face, like, 'Wow, I can't believe you carry this. I haven't seen this for such a long time,'" Ridley says.

Dogs are welcome, since this market of multiple merchandise carries pet supplies.

Chirping chickens share lodging with downy ducks. They even have rabbits. But these animals are not sold as pets, but farm animals.

They sell hunting rifles, and food for livestock. When you're tired of shopping, kick back in the furniture section. Though they also sell household items, Kelly Schultz of Herman described the store as a "guy's kind of place."

"My husband's just going to love shopping here. It's just right up his alley with the chainsaws, and things like that."

"It's kind of like a combination of Lowes and Harbor Freight and Tractor Supply," says Mike Shuler of Slippery Rock. "Sort of all combined together, including free popcorn."

The store manager advises visitors to allow enough time, because, "It takes a long time to get around this thing."
