Jones To Start For Steelers In Preseason Opener

LATROBE (93-7 The FAN) - One guy that's looking forward to the Steelers preseason opener Sunday is quarterback Landry Jones, who is entering his third NFL season.

Jones, who the Steelers drafted in the fourth round of the 2013 NFL Draft, has been getting extended reps at practice the last two weeks.

"The more you get, the better you're going to be," Jones said Friday before the afternoon practice.

Coach Mike Tomlin also had a few things to say about Jones. After ruling out most of the offensive playmakers for the game Sunday, a list that includes Ben Roethlisberger, Le'Veon Bell, Antonio Brown and others, Tomlin says Jones will get a large amount of playing time to prove himself.

When asked if he believes this is a make or break year for himself, Jones calmly replied, "I mean if you look at it too much you can over-hype it and stuff, so I just try to stay away from that and go out there and control the things that I can control."

Whether he can be as calm with the ball in his hands come Sunday remains to be seen. What we do know is Landry Jones will have his opportunity to shine in Canton, Ohio.

"I just want to go out there and play confidently and decisively," Jones said. "If I can do that, and take care of the football, I think it can be a good day."
