Washington Co. Community Sick Of Constant Gunfire

WASHINGTON, Pa. (KDKA) – An upswing in violence has some neighbors in one local community on edge.

There have been multiple shootings in the city of Washington recently, including several on the same street.

The neighborhood is located in the West End of Washington. People along Fayette Street say crime has gotten so bad, they've named the neighborhood "The Worst End."

"That's what we're called, the worst end, yes," said Walter Spencer.

Neighbors tell KDKA there have been five shootings in the last 10 days with the most recent gunfire coming Sunday night.

Bruce Gaito heard shots a few doors down from his house. Police say no one was hurt, but Gaito says he's ready to move.

"Too close to home buddy, too close to home. I'm afraid some young kid's going to get shot and killed," he said.

Two other men were wounded in separate shootings at the end of July. Jo Ann Pratt says she won't allow her grandchildren to sit outside in front of her house.

"This is happening at night and during the day," said Pratt.

Walter Spencer says another man was shot outside the house next door. He says police drive through the neighborhood often, but he thinks they should do more.

"Maybe more police walking the streets, rather than just riding around. There's a lot of traffic going around, a lot of drugs going nowadays, we definitely need something," he said.
