Overflowing With Cats, Animal Friends Holds BOGO Adoptions

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – If you're looking for a new furry feline companion, or two, you're in luck.

Animal Friends has been inundated with cats and they're holding a buy one, get one, adoptions.

Volunteer dog walkers for Animal Friends rescue shelter get a lot of exercise.

So do their grateful companions. But at the moment, homeless felines are the cat's meow.

Communications director Shannon Tremblay says additional space is needed, following a recent cat confiscation.

"Thirty-two cats were taken out of a house, from a hoarding situation. And then, one of the cats even gave birth here after they arrived, bringing the total to 39."

The sudden influx of felines merely added to the overflow.

All told, if you count foster cats, Animal Friends has some 300 cats in their care.

Catapulted into a difficult situation, Shannon says the rescue organization came up with a catchy idea. "Buy one, get one free."

"We know adopting one cat, if you decide to adopt two it's not that big of a difference than adopting just one. So it's basically for one donation, you'll get the price for two cats. 'Twice is nice' is what we're saying."

Diane Hahn's grandsons are helping her select a furry friend for her home in Bellevue.

"My cat was 17 years old when he passed away, a few weeks ago," she said. "So I was kind of missing having a cat around the house."

There is no shortage to choose from.

"A lot of kitties," Shannon Tremblay says. "All loving, all ages, all temperaments. All need homes."

Meanwhile, they'll just make themselves comfortable, waiting for that purr-fect moment.
