3 Men Accused Of Trying To Steal Flood Response Boat From Police Headquarters

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - Three men have been arrested, accused of trying to steal a Flood Response Unit boat from Pittsburgh Police Headquarters on the North Side.

Around 4:20 p.m. on Sunday, officers observed three men standing next to a tan Chevrolet Colorado truck. According to the investigation, the tow hitch had been removed from the Flood Response Unit truck.

A witness, who was parked next to the boat, saw what was going on and that the men looked like they were drunk. That witness snapped photos of the three in action and called 911.

When police arrived, the men were shirtless and tried to make up excuses, including that the hitch had mysteriously appeared on their truck.

"Our officers observed that they were trying to manipulate not just the trailer, but the hitch and the boat to hook that up to the back of their truck and drive off with it," Pittsburgh Police Spokeswoman Sonya Toler said. "The only defense they had was to start yelling obscenities to our officers and within a short amount of time, they were under arrest."

Police also said that the truck had its license plate covered with cardboard.

The suspects have been identifies as Luke Miller, 24, Lowell Gloeckl, 52, and Devin Gloeckl, 23. All three men are from West Mifflin.

"I don't think too many people in their right minds would come to the property of police headquarters and try to steal something," Toler said.

They were charged with theft by unlawful taking, receiving stolen property, criminal trespass and public drunkenness.
