4 Injured In Police Chase, Crash Along Route 51
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - Four people, including two children, were injured when a police chase ended in a violent crash overnight.
Police say two children, ages 11 and 13, are in the hospital after the crash Monday night at the intersection of Route 51 and Woodruff Street in Mount Washington.
It happened when a stolen Hyundai, that according to police was being driven by 19-year-old Raymon Brown, ran a red light and hit a car driven by 35-year-old Heather Bach.
Her children, Amelia and Noah, were passengers in the vehicle.
Police began chasing the stolen car as it traveled outbound on the West End Bridge.
By the time they reached it at Saw Mill Run Boulevard, the Hyundai had already crashed with Bach's vehicle.
As they approached the crash, police say they identified the driver and his passenger as known members of the Darccide Gang.
Police from Stowe Township chased the vehicle, and Pittsburgh Police responded to the crash.
The two children were transported to Children's Hospital in serious condition related to internal bleeding.
Brown was taken to Allegheny General Hospital with a rib fracture and lacerated liver. The passenger in the stolen car went to UPMC Mercy Hospital.
Brown is charged with theft by unlawful taken, receiving stolen property, accidents involving injury and recklessly endangering another person.
Witnesses told police that the Hyundai, which was stolen last week from Dormont, had been traveling at extremely high rates of speed before the crash.
