Ellwood City Woman Charged, Accused of Abandoning Cats in Apartment

ELLWOOD CITY (KDKA)- A Lawrence County woman faces multiple charges of animal cruelty after being accused of abandoning several cats in a vacant apartment.

Charges of animal cruelty were filed Monday against 66-year-old Pamela Kifer.

Back in June, Kifer had a summary hearing and was given 30 days to remove her cats from the apartment on Center Avenue. She told officers that she had one cat, and maybe some kittens inside the apartment.

After the 30 days passed, detectives contacted her and Kifer told them she has still not removed the cats from the apartment.

A search warrant was obtained for the apartment just over a week ago. When police entered the abandoned apartment, they found three adult cats and a kitten. Police say all of the cats were severely emaciated and sick.

The cats have been moved to an animal shelter, where they are being nursed back to health.

Kifer has been charged with eight counts of animal cruelty and one count of perjury.
