Mom Gets Jail For Pulling 6-Year-Old's Hair So Hard She Bled

BEAVER (AP) - A Beaver County woman will spend nearly one to two years in jail for pulling her 6-year-old daughter's hair so hard it separated the girl's scalp from her skull and caused internal bleeding.

The Beaver County Times reports 26-year-old Brittany Ruck, of Conway, was sentenced Wednesday.

Ruck pleaded no contest in July to aggravated assault of a child. Police say Ruck was upset because the girl couldn't count to 12 last August.

Ruck has terminated her parental rights to the girl and has only supervised visits with her other two children.

The judge imposed a sentence of 11 months, 29 days to 23 months, 29 days in jail. That enabled Ruck to avoid state prison, which is reserved for sentences of more than two years.

Ruck told the judge, "It's an unfortunate event. I love my daughter."
