Firefighters Aid Man Shot Outside Of Hazelwood Firehouse

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – Firefighters rushed to help a man after he was shot close to the firehouse in Hazelwood Saturday morning.

Police were called to the 100-block of Flowers Avenue around 9:10 a.m., which is only a couple of blocks from the firehouse.

The man, believed to be 20 years old, was aided by the firefighters until paramedics arrived. He was then taken to UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in critical condition.

Police say the man was standing with a group of people when a gray or green sedan drove by and shot into the group.

The man accused of shooting the victim is 21-year-old Giante Hillard. Police say he was arrested after showing up at the hospital with a gunshot wound to the hand.

He's expected to be charged on several counts, including attempted homicide and carrying a firearm without a license.
