Homestead Shooting Leaves 1 Man Dead

HOMESTEAD (KDKA) – Police are investigating after one man was shot and killed in Homestead Monday morning.

According to emergency dispatchers, the shooting happened in the 1100-block of McClure Street around 11:48 a.m.

Reportedly the shooting followed an argument.

Witnesses tell KDKA it appeared the gunman had been waiting for the victim.

Police say the victim's car was riddled with bullets by at least one man.

"Police arrived, found that a vehicle had approached the area, while it was moving it was fired upon multiple times," said Sgt. John Kaschaeur, of Homestead Police.

Police say the victim, a 25-year-old man, was shot twice. He jumped out of the car and ran, leaving his tennis shoes in the street. But he collapsed around the corner of McClure Street and died.

Witness Keith Baker was walking towards his apartment next door when the shooting started.

"I'm coming down the street. He's shooting like it's the O.K. Corral," said Baker. "I seen a guy running this way, I guess he was the victim with a white undershirt. I ducked in between the houses, a bullet got no name."

Police also say a passenger was in the back of the vehicle, but won't say if that person was wounded.

No motive was given for the shooting.

Homestead Mayor Betty Esper lives near the shooting scene. She thinks it's drug related.

"This is broad daylight, 12 o'clock noon," she said. "We have school kids, kids out in the street. These kids have no value of their own life, let alone somebody else's."
