Fayette Co. Fair Worker Accused Of Running Down Man Facing More Charges

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - A Fayette County Fair worker accused of running down a man in a truck appeared in court Tuesday and is now facing additional charges.

The added charge today was attempted homicide.

The father and uncle of the victim took the witness stand during the preliminary hearing. Almost in tears, they talked about Ryan Graft's injuries. He has a shattered spine and is unable to walk.

State police say it was just before 2:30 a.m. on Aug. 1 when 54-year-old David Lee Weaver, of Cape Coral, Florida, got into an argument with the 26-year-old Graft.

It reached a boiling point and Weaver is accused of putting the Ford pickup truck he was driving in gear and running over Graft. It is still unclear what the confrontation was about.

Police say Weaver dragged Graft more than 40 feet under his truck and never stopped. Graft's ear was torn off, he suffered seven broken ribs, a collapsed lung and various other injuries.

He was recently moved from UPMC Presbyterian Hospital and placed in long-term rehabilitation. His father says he can speak, but does not remember the incident.

State police say Weaver was intoxicated at the time of the incident. Among his charges now are attempted homicide, assault and DUI.

The incident happened in Dunbar Township. Graft is from the area, and Weaver was working for a vendor at the Fayette County fairgrounds.

Weaver was taken back to the Fayette County Prison where he has been held since Aug. 1.
