Man Killed In Fayette Co. Pedestrian Accident

NORTH UNION TOWNSHIP (KDKA) – A man on his way to meet a co-worker Wednesday morning in Fayette County was struck and killed by an SUV when police say the driver apparently fell asleep behind the wheel.

According to emergency dispatchers, the accident happened at the intersection of Pittsburgh and Oliver Roads in North Union Township around 6:30 a.m.

The victim has been identified as 51-year-old Daniel Ferguson.

Feguson, a contractor, was walking to a Sheetz nearby to be picked up by his boss.

The 21-year-old driver of the Ford Explorer, identified as Cody Prichard of Uniontown, was on his way home from work at the time of the accident.

"It appears as though the [SUV driver] was driving southbound. He apparently fell asleep behind the wheel, went off on the shoulder of the road," Pennsylvania State Police Tpr. Stefani Lucas said.

The crash scattered debris along Route 51 and the front of the SUV was crushed.

"The vehicle impacted him and struck him and continued on till both the vehicle and pedestrian came to a rest on the shoulder of the road," said Trooper Lucas.

No other details have been released at this time.
