Residents Evacuated, 3 Treated At Ross Twp. Apartment Fire

ROSS TOWNSHIP (KDKA) -- Residents were evacuated and at least three are being treated after a fire at an apartment building in Ross Township Wednesday afternoon.

It started around 4 p.m. at a seven-story building on Corbett Court, near the Northway Mall.

Firefighters found smoke coming from one apartment when they arrived.

Police say one person had forced his way into that apartment and found the man who lives there "semi-conscious."

He was taken the hospital for burns and smoke inhalation.

A woman living in the apartment above is also being treated for smoke inhalation.

Other residents were evacuated.

"I just heard the alarm go off and heard people talking in the hallway and just looked out the door and saw the smoke from the end of the hall and then the cops said, 'Get out, they're evacuating,'" said one resident..

"My apartment is full of smoke. I live on the bottom floor, so it was just everywhere," said resident Suzanne Farber.

A third resident was suffering chest pains during the fire, and was taken for treatment.

Police say the fire does not appear to be suspicious in nature.

The fire marshal has been called to the scene.
