Hidden Treasures Event To Bring Hundreds To History Center

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Visitors will line up at Heinz History Center Sunday morning, for appraisals of antiques and family heirlooms.

But Patty Murphy beats the rush, as she wheels her Schwinn bicycle, purchased at a yard sale, for the opinion of appraiser Bob DeCroo.

"I just bought it because when I was a little girl, I had a bicycle which was kind of similar to this," she recalls. "It had the brakes in the pedals."

"This bike is pretty much from the late-mid to late-1960s," the appraiser says. "And we can pretty much determine that. There's a serial number on here. And this is a Schwinn Hollywood model, which is one of their most popular bikes. Looks like the original tires, handle bar grips. The seat even has the Schwinn logo on it. So I would value this somewhere in the $150 to $300 range."

"I paid $13 for it," the owner responds.

Then, there's her coin collection.

"This is a solid gold coin," DeCroo says. "It's actually a $50 denomination, Canadian Maple Leaf. The value of this coin as we stand here today is between $1,100 and $1,200."

It's a coin she inherited from her dad.

"It's just like awesome," Patty Murphy says. "I just want to say thanks, Dad!"
