Survey Finds Office Temperature, Cleanliness A Priority For Millennials

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – If you have a hard time agreeing with your coworkers, you're not alone.

A survey by OpenWorks that looked at 300 workers between the ages of 25 and 55 found that many fought over cleanliness and temperature.

The survey found that 56 percent said those conflicts occurred, with 60 percent saying they've gotten into confrontations with other coworkers over it.

And it's no surprise, with the battle over office temperatures heating up in the media lately, that the survey found that men and women differ over thermostat preferences in the office. In fact, most men they surveyed preferred an office set at 70 degrees or cooler, where 40 percent of the women they talked to liked 72 degrees or higher.

The study also found that cleanliness was a big issue for some, specifically millennials, in addition to temperature.

According to OpenWorks, the majority of millennials they talked to said they would take a smaller salary for a cleaner office – and ideal temperature. However, just one-quarter of the baby boomers surveyed agreed.
