Wet Westmoreland Co. Knife-Wielding Robbery Suspect Sought

HERMINIE (KDKA) – Police are investigating after a man wearing wet clothes and brandished a knife held up a local convenience store in Westmoreland County.

According to police, the incident happened Saturday at the BP gas station on Clay Pike Road in Herminie, Sewickley Township.

A man ran into the store around 7:13 p.m. and jumped onto the counter. The suspect brandished a knife and demanded that the clerk hand him the money in the register. The clerk complied and placed the cash register's tray on the counter.

At that time, the suspect grabbed the cash and fled the store.

According to surveillance video, the suspect was in the store for only 23 seconds.

"Generally, these types of criminals are very quick, but this individual, in a matter of 23 seconds," said Trooper Steve Limani, of Pennsylvania State Police.

The suspect has been described as a white male standing about 5-feet-8-inches tall with a thin or medium build and a tattoo on his hand.

He was wearing a green sweatshirt with a white stripe, blue jeans, dark shoes and a blue baseball cap. The suspect hid his face using a dark blue bandana.

But state police say there was also something strange about the suspect's clothes.

"One of the things we notice from the video is he has wet lower extremities, his pant legs," said Trooper Limani.

Police think the thief accessed the area by walking down, near or in Little Sewickley Creek, and it looks like he used it for his getaway as well.

"We believe he fled across the parking lot to a wooded area where there's a stream," Trooper Limani said.

Anyone with information is asked to contact state police.
