Allentown Stabbing Leaves Woman Critically Injured

ALLENTOWN(KDKA) – A woman remains in critical condition after being stabbed in the city's Allentown neighborhood Tuesday afternoon.

According to police, the incident happened in the 700-block of Excelsior Street around 1:45 p.m.

The 41-year-old victim was found in the street and taken to UPMC Mercy Hospital with multiple stab wounds. An 8-inch kitchen knife was found nearby.

"The guy really stabbed her," said Tammy Marotti, a neighbor. "She had one in her arm … and she was bleeding really bad, then fell right to ground in front of house over there."

According to police, she was stabbed inside of a home and then ran outside where she collapsed in the street.

"There was another woman with her, so we went and got some towels to try and stop the bleeding because I was on phone with paramedics," said Marotti.

Pittsburgh Police say they have taken 48-year-old Leroy Kent of Knoxville into custody. He fled the scene after the incident, authorities said, but was taken into custody a short time later on the South Side.

He was taken to UPMC Mercy Hospital to be treated for injuries he sustained from a fall while trying to get away from police.

Police continue to investigate.
