Port Authority: Overhead Line Issue Causes Sparking, Smoke At Gateway T Station

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Port Authority officials say repairs have been completed to an overhead line issue that caused some delays in T service Downtown on Wednesday.

According to the Port Authority, a piece of equipment that supports the T's overhead power lines broke and hit one of the lines, causing some sparking and smoke at the Gateway T Station in the heart of Downtown.

There was no fire, but firefighters were called in to check it out.

No injuries were reported, but riders were evacuated.

The issue prompted the Port Authority to restrict T service to a single track Downtown for much of Wednesday night.

But the Port Authority now says repairs were completed around 10:30 p.m. and T service has resumed normal operations.

The Port Authority reported delays of about 20 minutes on Wednesday evening.
