Postal Inspectors, Police Probe Suspicious Packages Sent To "Dance Moms" Cast

MURRYSVILLE (KDKA) -- Police and postal inspectors are investigating after a Westmoreland County post office intercepted several suspicious packages addressed to the stars of a popular reality TV show that's filmed locally.

Postal investigators say the five packages in question were headed to a PO Box for the young stars of the reality show "Dance Moms" on Lifetime when they were discovered on Tuesday.

"We got alerted that these parcels were at the Murrysville Post Office, and they were suspicious in nature, so postal inspectors responded, they x-rayed the parcels, they notified the bomb squad," said U.S. Postal Inspector Tammy Mayle. "The bomb squad had some concerns, so they responded."

According to investigators, there was nothing physically dangerous inside the parcels; however, the material was not suited for minors.

"Contained within the parcels, however, they were very inappropriate items for young girls," says Mayle. "They were threatening, harassing type items."

Authorities say included in the inappropriate material was pornography. The boxes allegedly came from a male individual in California.

Postal inspectors say this is nothing new.

"There had been previous parcels that had been shipped to this previous PO Box that we were alerted to, so it was the same situation," said Mayle. "This individual does have a criminal record, and we are talking to other law enforcement across the country to try to collect data on this individual to build up an investigation for our situation."

Authorities plan to bring the U.S. Attorney General's Office into the investigation.
