Rocky Bleier Shares Life Beyond The Field In "The Play"

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – Most people know him as an incredible football player, a Steelers legend.

Now Rocky Bleier is sharing his fascinating, motivational life story beyond the field in a new show at Heinz Hall.

The one-night-only show called "The Play" will be performed on Tuesday, Sept. 15.

"This is a whole different venue where you are taking your life story ... to a live audience," said Bleier.

The show was written by the Post-Gazette's Gene Collier.

"He had a lot of great stories that we talked about, some are in the play, but you know, as the play developed ... we kind of came to the conclusion that the best story Rocky has is his own," said Collier. "It's a tremendously compelling story and there's a whole generation of Pittsburghers who might not be familiar with it. It is 40 years ago."

Rocky has spent all summer memorizing a 52-page script and rehearsing.

In the show, Bleier will talk about his roles as an activist, family man, Super Bowl champion and as a wounded warrior.

Former Steeler Chris Hoke is one of the executive producers of the show.

"He's a wonderful man," said Hoke. "He's fun to be around. For me it's been a joy to get to know him a little better on a different level. I've always known Rocky Bleier as a Steeler Hero, one of the guys who played in the '70s and won all the Super Bowls and this great football player and great man. And you get to know him on a personal level."
