Steelers Place Maurkice Pouncey On Reserve/Injured List
PITTSBURGH (KDKA/The Sports Xchange) -- It's been a busy day for the Steelers.
In addition to making several roster moves and adding 10 players to their practice squad, the team placed center Maurkice Pouncey on their reserved/injured, designated for return list.
Pouncey suffered a leg injury in the Steelers' preseason win against the Green Bay Packers.
He can return to practice in six weeks and is eligible to play again starting with the Steelers' Nov. 8 game against the Oakland Raiders.
Doug Legursky will take Pouncey's spot on the roster.
Also on Sunday, the Steelers signed running back Jordan Todman, who had just been released by the Carolina Panthers.
The Steelers had a first-hand look at Todman on Thursday, when he rushed for 72 yards on five carries for the Panthers, in the Steelers' 23-6 preseason loss to the Carolina.
Todman joins Le'Veon Bell, DeAngelo Williams, and Roosevelt Nix as the Steelers' running backs.
The Steelers are Todman's fourth team in five NFL seasons, and he spent his last three seasons with Jacksonville. Last season, he rushed for 186 yards and averaged 5.8 yards per carry.
He also played for the Minnesota Vikings and was drafted in 2011 by the San Diego Chargers.
The Steelers also claimed defensive end Caushaud Lyons, who was waived by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
To make room on the roster for Todman and Lyons, the Steelers waived linebacker Anthony Chickillo and released cornerback Doran Grant.
The Steelers signed 10 players to the practice squad: running back Dominique Brown, defensive back Jordan Dangerfield, offensive linemen Reese Dismukes and Antonio Johnson, linebackers L.J. Fort and Shayon Green, defensive end Ethan Hemer, wide receivers Shakim Phillips and Jarrod West and tight end Harold Spears.
They also named their four team captains for the season by player vote.
Ben Roethlisberger will captain the offense, Robert Golden will serve as special teams leader, and William Gay and Cam Heyward will serve as captains for the defense.
The Steelers open the regular season Sept. 10 against the reigning Super Bowl champion New England Patriots.
