Prizes Awarded On Final Day Of Rib Festival On North Shore

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- The sweet smoke of barbecued ribs lures the hungry to the east wall of Heinz Field. Monday is the final day of the annual Ribfest.

Many stop for lunch after the Labor Day parade. Others have just ended their tour of a World War II LST, anchored nearby.

Judges determined the best in three different categories.

The "Best Ribs" award goes to Big Bone BBQ of Kentucky.

"We cook them just the right amount of time, with just the right amount of heat," says owner Pat Nelson. "These are tender, fall off the bone ribs. And you can put your own sauces on them. The sauces are wonderful."

The "Best Sauce" title goes to Pigfoot BBQ of Cleveland. Owner Kevin Gift says each region has a different taste.

"Pittsburgh likes a little tang. They like a little bite at the end of it," he says.

As for the "People's Choice Award," that goes to Badazz BBQ of Baldwin.

Rib champs in the land of pierogies? We asked owner Stacy Bradley to give us the recipe.

"I would if I could," she replied. "But I can't. I'd have to kill you."

Well, the ribs are... to die for. Last year they won "Best Ribs" and "Best Sauce." This year's award makes a trifecta. What's next?

"We're going to the casino tonight," the owner smiles.

And she's not just ribbing us.
