Pittsburgh Police Investigating Spring Garden Armed Robbery

SPRING GARDEN (KDKA) - Pittsburgh Police are investigating an armed robbery in the city's Spring Garden neighborhood.

According to police, the incident happened at the Family Dollar on Spring Garden Avenue around 8 p.m. Tuesday.

"Brandished a gun, demanded money and got away with an undisclosed amount of cash," Pittsburgh Police Spokeswoman Sonya Toler said. "We believe she fled on foot, but it's very possible she walked around the corner and got into a car. We don't know."

The suspect, an African-American woman, robbed the store at gunpoint.

"Our investigators were very quickly on the scene for this. Searched the area for her, went into the store, looked at the video footage and got the photo out as quickly as possible," Toler said.

She was described as being about 5-feet-6-inches tall with a heavy build. She was last seen wearing a Pittsburgh Steelers tank top and hat with gray sweatpants and a blue hooded-sweatshirt.

"Our hope with putting images out on this and any other crime, is that someone who knows that person is going to recognize them and be brave enough to pick up that phone and make that phone call to let us know," Toler said.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police at (412)-323-7800.
