Cutch Surprises Fourth Graders At Brookline School

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Imagine returning from fourth grade lunch and finding Andrew McCutchen in your classroom.

Not to mention, baseball caps and other surprises on your desk.

Jonathan Hensel brought the All Star center fielder to Brookline School, by wearing the winning apparel in an online photo contest sponsored by New Era, the official ball cap of Major League Baseball.

When the boy was asked his favorite sport, he hesitantly answered, "Soccer."

Cutch took it all in stride, and proceeded to answer questions from Jonathan's classmates.

"What was your best play?" a boy asked.

"Probably any one where I'm diving," McCutchen answered.

A girl followed up with, "How many balls have you caught?"

"150 of them," McCutchen replied. That might be a low estimate.

Jonathan's family also enjoyed the moment.

"He plays baseball, and I tell you what, Cutch's name is all over their dugout every game," says Jonathan's mother, Nicole Miglioretti. "Run like Cutch. Put your head down. Don't look up. I mean, he's a very good role model for the kids to have."

"These are the things that I'm going to remember, more than anything," McCutchen said. "More than a 500-foot homer. More than winning a game. Moments like this, being able to interact with different people and kids, these are the things that are going to stick with me."

Understandably, Jonathan found it difficult to keep his secret inside. So he told his classmates that Cutch was coming, but he says they didn't believe him.

He got the last laugh when the entire class joined the Pirates star in a chant of, "Let's go Bucs!"
