Actress Kim Coles Shares Struggle With Heart Problems

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Kim Coles was a TV star in the '90s. But when she began having heart problems, her life took a different turn. The change came about while doing a talk show in Chicago.

"There were three of us sitting," she recalls, "and the person said that one in three women will die of heart disease. And I looked, and I knew I was having heart palpitations. I knew I wasn't living healthy or eating healthy, and I didn't want to be that one."

Later, she says, she received a call.

"The American Heart Association called me to host their 'Power of Laughter' luncheon. And this is my second time doing it here in Pittsburgh."

She'll lead the laughter Saturday in a luncheon at the Westin Convention Center Hotel.

Kim Coles says laughter can be good medicine.

"The power of laughter as a healer is huge. It is physically important because your body needs oxygen, and when you laugh, you take in the oxygen, and it makes the blood pump stronger, and makes you feel better."
