Animal Activists Again Protest Vick Outside Steelers Game
PITTSBURGH (AP) - Animal rights activists have once again protested outside a Pittsburgh Steelers game to protest the signing of quarterback Michael Vick.
The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports that more than 50 people lined up outside Heinz Field before kickoff Sunday, wearing crimson shirts that read "I Support Pits Over Points."
They lined the sidewalk near the Law Enforcement Officers Memorial, to which a memorial for fallen K-9 officers was added in July.
Vick returned to football in 2009 after serving 18 months for helping run an interstate dogfighting ring. Since then he's advocated against organized animal fighting. The former Atlanta Falcons star has played for the Philadelphia Eagles and New York Jets.
Earlier this month, about 100 to 200 people held a candlelight vigil outside the team's last preseason game.
