One Person Killed in Fiery Crash in Harmar Township

HARMAR TOWNSHIP (KDKA)- Police are looking into the cause of a deadly crash in Harmar Township.

Around 4:45 p.m. on Thursday, a red corvette flew over a hillside off Rivermont Court at the Highland Woods housing development.

The car went down three levels of a tiered hillside, and ended up in a wooded area just above Little Deer Creek Road.

The corvette burst into flames, killing the driver.

So far, the Allegheny County Medical Examiner's Office has been unable to identify the victim.

Residents at the Highland Woods housing development told the Tribune Review the car belonged to a man believed to be n his early 50s, who lived with his girlfriend in the development.

It took crews until 9:30 p.m. on Thursday to finally remove the wreckage from the wooded area.

Harmar Township police suspect a mechanical problem with the car or a medical condition led to the crash.
