Pittsburgher Jackie Evancho To Perform For Pope Francis

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- People have said Jackie Evancho has the voice of an angel. So, it should come as no surprise that the Pittsburgher has been asked to sing during Pope Francis' visit to the United States.

"I never even dreamt of seeing the pope, so I think it's going to be really cool," says Evancho.

KDKA's David Highfield: "The pope will be in the audience, right?"

Evancho: "I think so. Either way, it's an honor."

Jackie, who is now 15, will sing "When You Wish Upon a Star," "Can't You Feel the Love Tonight," and "Ava Maria."

The list of other performers for the pope's visit to Philadelphia is impressive. It includes actor Mark Wahlberg, comedian Jim Gaffigan, Sister Sledge, and Aretha Franklin.

Jackie, who is Catholic, views her singing abilities as something she was blessed with.

"Since I was very little and people said I could sing [well], I've always thought, 'thank God.' Always thank God for that," says Evancho.

Now she's looking forward to sharing that gift with people in Philadelphia gathered to see the pope.

"It's like I'm telling stories to my friends when I'm singing for an audience. I really enjoy it," she says.

Jackie just recently performed in Italy, and she will perform in Philadelphia Saturday night.
