Two Teens Arrested For Fatally Shooting Man In North Braddock

NORTH BRADDOCK (KDKA) - A 60-year-old man was shot and killed during an apparent robbery at his home in North Braddock.

Around 3:30 p.m. on Monday, shots rang out inside a home in the 1500-block of Ridge Avenue.

Harry Vaughn died in the shooting. He was pronounced dead at 3:32 p.m. An autopsy will be performed today to determine the exact cause of death.

According to the criminal complaint, two teenagers walked into Vaughn's home through the back door. Jordan Johnson, 17, is accused of pointing a gun at a woman in the home. Vaughn heard the woman's screams and ran to help. Police say he fought with the teens, trying to get the gun away from them. That's when several shots were fired. Vaughn was hit under the left armpit and later died from his injuries.

Vaughn's friends are shocked by his death.

"He had not deserved any of this," said Lawrence Frost. "I'll miss him, I'll miss him so badly, I just wish he'll be able to know just how much he'll be missed."

"He loved a lot of people," said Vaughn's friend John Ricci. "He took care of all these kids out here. I just wanted to say he will be dearly missed."

A lot of people knew the victim. They say he was a one of a kind man.

"That's my brother them kids took from me," close friend Charles Prince said.

Charles Prince says Vaughn wasn't his brother by blood. He was his brother by heart.

"None of us deserve to have that man taken from us the way we did," Vaughn said.

Prince has known Vaughn for 14 years. He says he's been nothing but a positive influence on his life and the lives of many others in the North Braddock community.

"All the kids looked up to him, every one of them that grew up on the street. Several in their 20s and 30s, even ones in their 40s remember him and called him uncle, brother, and even, hey dad," Prince said.

Destiny Walker, 16, and Johnson were questioned and then charged with criminal homicide, conspiracy and robbery. Johnson had additional charges of possession of a firearm by a minor and tampering with evidence.

Both suspects are being charged as adults and have been taken to the Allegheny County Jail.

Both teens have their preliminary hearing scheduled for next Wednesday. Allegheny County Police are handling the investigation.
