2 Rescued After High-Speed Chase Suspect Crashes Into Car

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – Two people had to be pulled from a car after a high-speed chase suspect rammed into their vehicle.

It started Sunday when a drive led police on a high-speed chase starting in West Homestead.

The suspect eventually hit a car at the intersection of Commonwealth Avenue and Route 837 in Duquesne, not far from Kennywood.

Police say emergency crews had to cut the roof off of the vehicle to rescue two people inside.

It was caught on camera from a neighbor's house facing Route 837. The car, waiting to make a left turn, was hit by the suspect's car as it raced through the intersection.

A few seconds later, West Homestead Police pursuing the car arrived on scene.

Eric Hart saw it all happen from a convenience store parking lot.

"He was going super fast, I was scared enough that I had to get the kids in the store because I thought that car was actually going to run into the store," he said.

He says they tried the rescue the injured couple from the mangled vehicle.

"They were pinned," Hart said. "The cops didn't want to touch the car at all, couldn't get the door open. Fire trucks came and cut the whole roof off of the door and got them out."

At last report, both victims were in stable condition at UPMC Mercy Hospital.

The wrecked stolen car came to rest about 50 yards away. Firefighters had to cut the doors off to extricate the driver.

Police say he's listed in critical condition at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital.

"He has a broken femur, a broken pelvis and a collapsed lung," said West Homestead Police Sgt. James Ciocco.
