Police Investigating Apparent Murder-Suicide In Baldwin

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – Allegheny County Police are investigating an apparent murder-suicide in Baldwin Borough.

Crews were called to a home in the 1400-block of Cathell Road around 6:30 p.m. on Monday after someone found the bodies of a man and woman inside the home.

The Allegheny County Medical Examiner's Office identified the couple as 55-year-old Jacquelyn Ross and 54-year-old Jeffery Ross.

"When I [saw] all the activity up there, I was shocked myself," neighbor Mike Hannan said.  "They were my customers. I cut their grass. Any landscaping that needed done I did it."

Some friends in the neighborhood called police for a welfare check since they hadn't seen or heard from the couple for a few days.

"At this point we are handling this as a murder-suicide investigation. We have no reason to believe there was any foul play from someone outside that residence," Lt. Andrew Schurman with Allegheny County Police said.

Neighbors say they never suspected any problems between the couple. However, police say there could have been other issues.

"There are indications that the couple were depressed or desponded and this may have been some agreement between them to take their lives," Schurman said.

Neighbors say they lived in their home, which they rented for a few years, with a chocolate lab and kept to themselves.

Investigators believe Jeffery Ross shot and killed Jacquelyn before turning the gun on himself.

County police say they've never dealt with the couple before and believe the same goes for Baldwin Police. Investigators don't believe the couple had any children.

The Allegheny County Medical Examiner said autopsies will take place later in the day Tuesday.
