Police Investigate Squirrel Hill Sex Assault And Robbery

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – Pittsburgh Police are investigating a reported sexual assault-robbery that occurred recently in a Squirrel Hill apartment.

Detectives released a composite sketch of the suspect, based on the description given to them by the victim, a woman in her 60's.

Police Commander Larry Scirotto says the woman was coming home from the grocery store, when she was approached by someone near her apartment in the 5000 block of Forbes Avenue.

The man walked up to the victim, and asked her if she needed help with her groceries. The "good Samaritan" helped carry the groceries inside, but, then Commander Scirotto said the suspect pulled out a gun, sexually assaulted the woman, and ran off taking some items from the apartment with him.

A woman who didn't want to give her name was walking along Forbes Avenue said Wednesday night "it's shocking, a horribly upsetting thing to hear about," adding that it didn't sound like a Squirrel Hill type of crime.

Commander Scirotto said the suspect was black, about 5 feet, 10 inches tall, with a thin build.

Scirotto said "the victim [told investigators] she didn't know the suspect, she said she never met him, and he didn't look at all familiar to her.

If you recognize the suspect, you should call Crime Stoppers, at 412-255-8477.

You could receive a reward of up to a thousand dollars.
