Mt. Washington Home Invasion Suspect Shot & Killed
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – Police are investigating a deadly home invasion in Mount Washington.
The shooting happened around 10 p.m. Monday during a home invasion on Kambach Street.
"I just heard a few gunshots over the TV while I was watching the Steelers game," said a neighbor who didn't want to be identified. "I didn't know exactly what was going on, I jumped up and went to look out my window. I just heard screaming and gunshots."
Police say three men entered the home, armed with guns.
"We're still trying to put all the pieces together, but we believe that three black male actors entered the home. They were armed, there was a struggle. A weapon was removed from one of the actors and one of the actors has been shot multiple times and was pronounced dead at the scene," Pittsburgh Police spokeswoman Sonya Toler said.
The man shot and killed has been identified as Leonard Penn, 35, of Hazelwood.
Neighbors said they saw a man with dreadlocks run down the front steps following the shooting and get into a white vehicle and drive off. Police have not released what the suspects were after or who else may have fired any shots.
Toler said there were three people inside the home at the time of the break-in and those three individuals were all questioned.
"We're interviewing various people to continue to determine the full extent of what happened," Toler said.
So far, no arrests have been made.
