Washington Co. Gun Range Has Some Residents On Edge

WEST ALEXANDER (KDKA) - A gun range in Washington County is coming under fire from residents.

When it comes to gun ranges, there are basic rifle and sportsmen's clubs, but the new Washington County Machine Guns facility is very different.

Operated by firearms expert Tredd Barton in a remote part of Donegel Township, this place is unique.

"I don't think there's any that do what we do," says Barton. "Now, a lot of gun owners own machine guns and they do special events, but I think we're the only one that specializes in machine guns."

Machine guns, full automatic weapons and military-grade machine guns; it's not a place for the faint of heart.

"The 1942 Tommy Gun is always a big one, the M60, shooting an M60 from the hip is always a crowd pleaser," Barton says.

As you can imagine, a place like Washington County Machine Guns has its critics. A few people living relatively close say it's noisy and dangerous.

"It is loud, can't get around it," Barton says. "We're shooting machine guns."

Donegal Township officials confirm the range isn't violating any known ordinances. But if you want to try it out, this kind of shooting isn't cheap.

"Typically, people start at $99 for two machine guns," Barton says. "The most popular package is $135 for three machine guns, but we go up to 10 machine guns per person."
