Man With Pellet Gun Arrested In Monroeville Mall Parking Lot

MONROEVILLE (KDKA) - Monroeville Police say they were very familiar with Jason Scholl as a juvenile. Now that he's 18, he's behind bars at the Allegheny County Jail after police say he pointed a BB gun at someone in the parking lot of the Monroeville Mall.

Police responded to the mall Monday night after a fight that broke out between a group of teens.

Mall security detained Scholl after one of the teens said Scholl pointed a BB gun at him that resembled a semi-automatic weapon.

That teen ran away fearing for his life, yelling there was a gun.

Scholl also started to run, and allegedly tried to hide the BB gun and a utility knife he had on him.

He later admitted to police he was at the mall, and pulled out the BB gun because he thought he was going to get jumped.

A spokesperson with Monroeville Mall released this statement:

"There was a verbal altercation in the parking lot...Monroeville Police and Monroeville Mall security responded quickly and those involved were taken into custody within minutes."

The Monroeville Mall has dealt with its fair share of incidents in the past.

Earlier this year, a shooting in Macy's left three people injured.

Prior to that, the day after Christmas last year, a half dozen fights broke out with crowds swelling to as many as 1,000.

Because of these incidents, anyone under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult when they go to the mall Friday through Sunday.

Scholl faces multiple charges including terroristic threats, tampering with evidence and disorderly conduct.
