Officer Assaulted In Homewood, Woman Arrested

HOMEWOOD (KDKA) –  A woman is in custody for assaulting a police officer in Homewood early Tuesday morning.

According to police, the incident happened in the 7000-block of Kelly Street around 3 a.m.

Officers were initially called to the area for a report of a man's vehicle being damaged by a woman he knew.

"Dents on the hood of the trunk, the antenna was bent, there were some scratches on the window," Pittsburgh Public Safety Spokeswoman Emily Schaffer said. "As officers were at the scene, the actor actually returned to the scene to confront the victim."

The woman has been identified as Candace Bey, 41, of McKees Rocks.

An officer attempted to detain Bey, but she resisted and struck the officer in the face twice.

"The officer stood in between the actor and the victim so that no one would get hurt. When the police officer told the actor she was being taken into custody, a little struggle ensued," Schaffer said. "The actor struck the officer twice and actually ripped the radio off of his uniform."

Bey was taken into custody and faces a list of charges including, aggravated assault, resisting arrest and simple assault. Bey is due back in court on Nov. 10.

The officer suffered cuts to his face and was treated at the scene.
