Roethlisberger Restaurant May Be Coming To North Shore

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- When Ben Roethlisberger returns to action on Sunday, fans are hoping he'll bring back his formula for success. Number seven is also hoping to bring another area of accomplishment to Pittsburgh... restaurant ownership.

"Just had a friend who had some restaurant in South Carolina, and we have a few down there, and it made sense to bring something up here," Roethlisberger said Thursday.

Former Steelers opening restaurants is certainly nothing new, with Hines Ward's Table 86 in Seven Fields and ther Jerome Bettis Grille 36 on the North Shore.

Scott Kier, Roethlisberger's partner, is the principal owner of the King Street Grilles restaurant chain along the Carolina coast, and he said via email that he and Roethlisberger are opening the Savannah Taphouse in Savannah in a couple weeks. A working name for the Pittsburgh location would be something like Seven Grille and Taphouse.

Thursday, Roethlisberger said he had just received an email about a possible location for the restaurant on the North Shore. That location is where Continental Development had prepared a restaurant for Toby Keith before his chain backed out. Kier says he's aware of the space, but so far, that's it. Sources say Kier and Roethlisberger have also taken a look at McCandless Crossing.

The restaurant is expected to be a sports-themed venue, but as for including some menu item tied to the quarterback, Roethlisberger said, "It doesn't really matter to me, as long as my partner runs it well, and it's a good place for people to enjoy their time."

Tod Dundas, the King Street Grilles restaurant chain's director of operations, told our news partners at the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette that Kier has not signed a lease, but "he was kind of excited about [the North Shore] location."
