North Hills Shop Helping Pets With Every Sale

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - A North Hills shop is saving pets with style.

It's a second-hand store and all of the proceeds go to local animal shelters.

Wearwoof is packed with fashion from shoes and jewelry to new and gently used, name brand clothing for women.

The prices are great, but that's not the only reason shoppers are flocking to this upscale shop.

Every purchase helps out homeless animals at 30 shelters and rescues in Allegheny and the surroundings counties.

"It works sort of the way a consignment shop works. Instead of you bringing in your clothes and then receiving money for them, you can actually designate one of our partners as a beneficiary. It's almost like they are the consigner," Executive Director Nancy Lee said.

Lee said she got the idea for Wearwoof while working as a volunteer.

"You can find a way to get involved without having to go into the shelter. That's sometimes is a little emotionally overwhelming for people because you go in and you want to take care of all the animals and that's where I was, I was volunteering and it was emotionally painful to watch animals suffer. This gave me a way to help, but also kind of feel good," Lee said.

In the two-plus years Wearwoof, has been open, it's raised roughly $40,000 for animal welfare.

Lee hopes that number continues to grow, especially now that the shop is in a new location in McIntyre Square.
