Defense Attorney: AG Kane Testifies She Knew Little Of Sandusky Case Leaks

HARRISBURG (KDKA/AP) - A defense attorney says Pennsylvania Attorney General Kathleen Kane testified she knew little about leaks in the Jerry Sandusky case; although, she seemed to imply last week that she did.

Kane was ordered to testify after issuing a news release attacking the grand jury judge in the Sandusky case. She accused that judge of secrecy violations stemming from her successful effort to remove him from grand jury duties.

Kane entered the courthouse and departed on Thursday by way of a garage elevator normally not visible to the public.

Photographers peered through distant windows hoping to get her picture, but it was obvious she had no intention of speaking with reporters.

Sandusky's defense attorney arrived through the public hallway, reluctant to speak with reporters while the proceedings were still under seal.

The issue is whether Kane had specific knowledge about the judge who supervised the grand jury investigation in the Sandusky case leaking information.

Kane implied the possibility, but on Thursday, her spokesperson said she was referring to the supervising judges handling of Supreme Court material, not the grand jury.

"I think her intention was to talk about Judge Feudale's willingness to expose Supreme Court protected material," said spokesperson Chuck Ardo.

What of Sandusky's claim of an unfair trial?

"I certainly think that she believes that Jerry Sandusky got a fair trial and there's no basis for the appeal," he said.

After 45 minutes there was no apparent evidence about leaks, says the defense.

"I think, generally, she did not have an opinion or direct knowledge of any leaks either by her office or by the supervising judge of the grand jury," said Sandusky's defense attorney Al Lindsay.

KDKA's Harold Hayes asked Lindsay, "So when you, the other day, said this was put up or shut up, did she put up?

"I don't want to comment on that," he replied.

Lindsay says he expects the judge to eventually release transcripts of Thursday's closed door hearing.

Sandusky is appealing his 2012 conviction on 45 counts of child sexual abuse.
