Herschel Walker: I Could Still Play In NFL Today At 53-Years-Old

PITTSBURGH (93-7 The FAN) - Former NFL running back Herschel Walker stays in tremendous shape at 53-years-old and as Joe Starkey found out, he thinks he could still cut it in the NFL today.

"Without a doubt in my mind, I could play today," Walker said. "Today they use running backs by committee and not like they [used to have] running backs carrying the ball 25, 30 times a game. I know I can get in if I have to carry the ball five, six, sevens times, work on third downs, return kickoffs, there's not a doubt in my mind that I could do that today."

The reason Walker is so confident he could play in today's NFL is because he keeps himself in tremendous shape, but not in the most conventional way.

"I sleep about four, four and a half hours a night," Walker said. "I still eat the one meal and do all the push-ups and sit-ups."

When asked about that one meal he eats a today, Walker said, "I don't eat a lot... I eat a little bit of chicken, I don't eat any red meat. A lot of soups and salads and bread. I don't eat a lot. I think God has blessed me because I don't think I eat enough calories to keep the weight that I'm at."
