Police Investigating Deadly Shooting In New Kensington

NEW KENSINGTON (KDKA)- Police are looking into a deadly shooting Friday morning in Westmoreland County.

The shooting happened shortly after midnight in the 700 block of Seventh Street in New Kensington. It happened in the Fueland gas station parking lot.

A New Kensington police officer was at the Rite Aid three to four blocks away when he heard shots fired. The officer rushed to the scene and found a man lying in the parking lot. The shooter had already fled the scene.

The victim was rushed to Allegheny Valley Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival. He has been identified as 24-year-old Anthony Ritchie, of Vandergrift.

A cell phone was found two blocks from the shooting scene. Detectives were able to track the phone down to a small area and recovered it during the search.

They believe it belonged to the Ritchie and was ditched in a yard.

Residents in the area are concerned about the violence in their neighborhood.

"Of course, when you have kids and grandkids in the vicinity, of course it does," Kim Beckett said.

"Oh yeah, we're moving. As soon as we have the available funds, we're moving. We're getting out," one man said.

Police are reviewing surveillance video from nearby businesses in hopes of identifying a suspect.
