60-Year-Old Man In 1985 Post Office Explosion Convicted Of Parole Violation

PITTSBURGH (AP) - Authorities in western Pennsylvania say a man convicted of sending a mail bomb that exploded at a post office three decades ago has been arrested on a parole violation.

Allegheny County and federal authorities said 60-year-old Randall McFadden walked away from a halfway house after completing a 30-year sentence in the 1985 blast at the Warrendale bulk postal center.

Officials said McFadden had tried to mail a pipe bomb to a woman in New York but it went off in the postal facility, causing extensive damage but no injuries.

Authorities said they found McFadden on Saturday at a hospital where he was taken after a hunter found him in the woods, severely dehydrated and malnourished.

McFadden was taken to the Allegheny County Jail.
