Pittsburgh VA's ICU Reopens After Mold Discovery

PITTSBURGH (AP) - The intensive care unit of a Veterans Affairs hospital in Pittsburgh that was shut down after mold was found in a ventilation system has been reopened.

Technicians discovered the mold Dec. 5 in an air handler during routine maintenance at the VA Pittsburgh Healthcare System hospital in the city's Oakland neighborhood.

Six patients were moved from the unit before maintenance work began. The VA spent five days cleaning up the mold and ensuring that additional mold wasn't in any other heating and cooling units.

VA officials said Friday the ICU was reopened after third-party testing found no additional mold in the area.
