Niese: Excited To Come To Pittsburgh
PITTSBURGH (KDKA 93-7 The Fan)- New Pirates pitcher Jon Niese, acquired earlier in the week for Neil Walker, joined Chris Mack on Saturday.
"It happened so fast, I kind of was blindsided a little bit," Niese said. "I'm actually really excited. It's a great team, a great organization, and it's a winning ballclub too, so happy for that."
Niese told Mack that he's a ground ball pitcher.
"If you keep the ball on the ground, you give your defense a chance to make the plays. I know with the Pirates, their track record of making plays is very high, so I'm pretty excited about that," Niese said.
Niese said that he's talked to Clint Hurdle, but not Ray Searage yet. But he's looking forward to speaking with Searage.
"I've heard nothing but great things about him and kind of how he's turned pitchers around. I'm looking forward to talking pitching with him," Niese said.
