Popular Holiday Light Show Causing Traffic Problems

BUTLER COUNTY (KDKA) -- A new holiday lights display is so popular it's causing some traffic problems on Friday and Saturday nights.

In fact, Pennsylvania State Police are warning drivers near the show in Butler County to stay alert. They're urging drivers on Route 422 near the Big Butler Fairgrounds to use extreme caution.

There have been two mile back-ups each way because of people headed to this show, and the stopped traffic is catching some drivers off guard.

Shadrack's Christmas Wonderland, a holiday lights display known in the South, expanded into the North this year by transforming the fairgrounds into a dazzling light show.

"Right now, this show has set records for attendance for all the shows," said Shannon Glover from Shadrack's.

But popularity comes with a price.

"It gets really backed up," said Glover. "We've added additional people to keep the lines open. We've got additional people at the ticket booth."

State Police have also added troopers along the highway on weekend nights.

Some say the wait to get in has been two and a half hours!

Glover advises: "If they can come during the week, like Monday through Thursday, that's the time to come. The lines aren't nearly as bad."

State Police advise finding an alternative route if you're just passing by Route 422 on a Friday or Saturday night.

The show ends January 3rd.
